Client Situation
The client is a durable goods manufacturer
with three modern, high-tech factories, totaling
over a million square feet. Their business philosophy
is to produce the highest quality, lowest cost
units in the world. In order to achieve this,
they must employ an ongoing contingent workforce
strategy across dispersed manufacturing operations.
Challenge:
The client was experiencing significant costs for
non-performance, due to:
- High absenteeism, in some cases as high as
60%
- Unacceptable turnover rates
- Contingent workforce recordable injury rates
significantly higher than their full-time equivalent
rates
- Lack of ability to take prompt payment
discounts due to ineffective contract compliance,
invoicing and payment processes
Based on the GAP Analysis,
Accelerator Consulting Group determined that
the client was losing unit production because
of absenteeism and turnover, equating to 7% labor
inefficiency. Lack of sufficient pre-placement
screening was a major trigger for the higher
turnover, reduced labor efficiency, absenteeism
and negative quality impact.
Solution:
ACG, working with the client and service provider,
tailored a customized plan that:
- Delivered a multi-million dollar first year
NPV
- Improved Key performance indicators over 50%
- Reduced recordable injury rates more than 25%
- Established mechanisms for contract and payment
compliance
- Instituted a much more stringent pre-screening
process for potential new hires
The ACG plan was a tailor-made
solution for the client, resulting in a marked
increase in work efficiency, a drastic reduction
in turnover and absenteeism, and most importantly,
a quick reduction in contingent workforce costs.
